Heartless manor, set in the rolling countryside of Transylvania, was
in the middle of nowhere. An old church and graveyard were the two
only features round the house and the nearest houses were in a village
miles down the road. Rumours were told amongst the village folk that
googlies and ghosts came out of the graveyard every full moon and
wondered the grounds of the house. The house and been empty for a
number of years and mysteriously the last owners of the manor had
never been seen since the last full moon party in the village. Some
local villagers had gone to check but had been scared off as they
thought they had seen something in the cemetery. From that point no
villager had ever set foot in the manor, church or graveyard.
Mr and Mrs Bogmore had two children, Julian and Octavia, who had been
fighting in the back of the car for three hours straight about who was
going to get the bigger bedroom. As a result Mr and Mrs Bogmnore were
extremely happy to turn the next corner and see a sign for their new
house, Heartless manor.
Mr Fiddle the estate agent had been waiting for somebody to buy the
house for a long time. Every time he had sent people to look a local
villager had warned then about rumours of the graveyard and the spooky
going ons. He had got so fed up with all the rumours wrecking his
plans to sell the house that he had enough and would go with the next
buyers to stop any villagers telling them the scary stories. The next
couple, of course, was Mr and Mrs Bogmore. Mr Fiddle made sure that he
showed the couple round the house and ensured that they never bumped
into a villager. The deal was done.
Julian and Octavia jumped out of the car and headed straight to the
garden to explore there new settings. Mr and Ms Bogmore sat in the car
for moment longer and breathed a sigh of relief as the constant
bickering was finally put to an end. They got out of the car and
walked to the front door, as they pushed it open the rusty hinges
squeaked loudly. In front of the him was a pitch black staircase the
colour of coal and the decoration had certainly seen better days, They
looked at each other and there expectations were levelling down.
As the sun was setting Mr and Mrs Bogmore started to think about
settling down for the evening. Mrs Bogmore made some sandwiches or tea
whilst Mr Bogmore was struggling to make the beds upstairs. Just then
Julain and Octavia came running into the kitchen and 'Mum, there is a
light on in the church'. Mrs Bogmore was confused as she knew nobody
ever went to the church. Mr Bogmore then came down from upstairs and
asked who had been running around upstairs as he'd heard footsteps.
They all looked at each other and just as they did this a loud booming
started and the air turned cold!
