Children's jobs

Children’s jobs

The children had to do tough jobs. They worked on farms, in the workhouse and down the mines a lot.
They started work at the age of 10 years old.
In the workhouse they worked up to 14 hours a day.
They got up at 4 am and ended at 8 pm and earned 15 pennies per day.
Sometimes the mines had floods and so the children would drown.
So it was very dangerous for the children to get gold and iron.

Children also worked on farms.
Sometimes children had to be scarecrows to keep the birds off the crops.
They got up at 3 am and ended at 9 pm.
They got so tired out they had to sleep in the bushes.

Children also worked in the print shop.
This could be dangerous because they could get their arm squashed.

I think this is not at all good and I am glad I didn’t live then.

DID YOU NOW
In the workhouse the bad were separated from the good.
And parents were separated from their children to.
